This sideboard (secretary) is an exceptional example of post-war Czechoslovak design, combining the elegance of fading Art Deco with the emerging modern lines of the 1940s. It was designed by one of the most prominent Czech designers, Jindřich Halabala, and manufactured between 1946 and 1948. The piece perfectly demonstrates how Halabala merged a representative appearance with high functionality, making it a timeless furniture item suitable for both period and modern interiors.
The item has undergone professional restoration. The body is made of precious mahogany veneer combined with beech and glass. The upper glass-fronted section with a shelf and an internal mirror is ideal for displaying drinkware or glass collections. A unique detail is the original flocking (suede-like surface) in a soft yellow shade inside the display case, preserved in its original state. The lower closed section features a decorative checkerboard veneer pattern, and the overall retro look is completed by elegant rounded legs.
