Architectural symbolism: In the Empire, these clocks were conceived as miniature antique temples (portals).

Chessboard inlay: The floor of the portal is inlaid with a two-tone wooden contrasting checkerboard, which creates a strong perspective effect of depth.

Mirror: A mirror is placed on the back wall behind the columns, this optically doubles the number of columns and creates the illusion of an endless hall.
