Boulle (Bulovky) The term Boulle refers to a luxurious technique of decorating clock cases and furniture, which bears the name of its creator: André-Charles Boulle (1642–1732), a famous cabinetmaker and court cabinetmaker to King Louis XIV of France. This is a special and demanding technique of marquetry (inlay), known as Boulle marquetry. The materials are carved into intricate ornamental patterns (floral motifs, tendrils, mascarons) and assembled. The gilded brass applications, the edges of the case and the feet are richly decorated with plastic gilded metal elements (so-called ormolu), which emphasize the Baroque shapes.
