This monumental lion statue is a fascinating example of Austrian production from the early 20th-century Art Deco period. The piece comes from the workshop of the famous Viennese manufacturer Goldscheider, one of the worlds leading names in artistic ceramics and bronze sculptures. The statue is signed by Cherc, referring to the specific artist of this dynamic design, which captures the power and majesty of the animal in a typically Art Deco stylization.

The uniqueness of this piece lies in the material used – bronze-finished ceramics, which masterfully combines the plasticity of clay with the noble appearance of metal. Founded in 1885, the Goldscheider company became famous for its ability to innovate surface finishes. While its early works were inspired by the Orient, this piece fully reflects the modern wave of the early 20th century. The statue is in its original, very well-preserved condition, which is rare for large-scale ceramics with a metallic patina.
