This writing desk is an excellent representative of 1950s Czechoslovak design, a period known as Mid-Century Modern. It was designed by the acclaimed architect Bohumil Landsman, whose work is highly valued for its ability to combine functionality with refined aesthetics and elegance. The desk features a light construction on tapered legs and clean geometric lines, characteristic of Landsman’s signature style.
The piece has undergone professional restoration, focusing on preserving its authenticity. The blockboard construction utilizes an attractive combination of woods—veneered in walnut and oak. This contrasting dialogue between the darker walnut and lighter oak gives the desk a unique visual rhythm. The original wood polish has been sensitively refreshed, highlighting the depth of the grain in both wood types. The desk offers practical storage space and, thanks to its timeless and subtle appearance, is a perfect addition to both modern and retro interiors.
